Cedar Valley hunting Poodles

In the fall of 2021 our daughter Brooke brought home an adorable, fuzzy faced Standard Poodle named Izzy. During her training and noticing the retrieving talent and hunting drive Izzy had, Brooke and Traci were impressed! With nearly 30 years of experience training and raising outstanding hunting and competitive Labradors, Brooke and Traci have decided to put together a program to produce outstanding hunting Poodles!

After training, genetic testing and breeding clearances, we are excited to announce our plans of breeding Brooke’s Lady Isabella BCAT for a summer 2024 litter!

Our puppies will receive extensive socialization using our proven training program we’ve used for nearly 30 years breeding our Labrador pups. We use the Early Neurological Socialization and Early Scent Introduction. They will be exposed to loud noises, distant gunshots, game birds, outside people, among other scenarios. Pups will have their dew claws removed and tails docked to the 3/4″ poodle length. Puppies will come with a health and genetic guarantee.

Deposits and wait list are being accepted now for Izzy and Newton’s upcoming litter!

more about this litter

We did an extensive search to find exactly what we were searching for in an outstanding stud dog to match with Izzy and our goals of producing great hunters and competitive dogs. We’ve decided to breed Izzy to Newton, Meadowlake Space Oddity UDX, SH (Senior Hunter titled and currently has four Master Hunter passes, only needing one more to have his MH title). Not only is Newton an accomplished poodle, he has an outstanding pedigree of AKC titled Master Hunters and performance titled dogs.

Newt is a driven retriever and loves birds. He also has some points toward his OTCH but his real love is hunting. He is blue in color and stands 26 inches tall and is 66 pounds. He is has a very level-headed temperament and is very affectionate.

Izzy is very prey driven and has an incredible nose. She has obtained her BCAT title in Fast CAT (coursing ability test). Training Izzy has been incredibly easy and she quickly picks up on anything we teach her. She loves to retrieve and hunt. Izzy is a wonderful family pet and great with children and features an incredible “off switch” when in the home and is happy to chill out and snuggle up. While she is not an official service dog, Brooke has worked with her on a number of service dog tasks and we believe she will produce great prospects for service dogs. Izzy is a blue and white “Parti Poodle” and stands 24 inches tall and is 45 pounds.

Izzy and Newton have the potential to produce puppies with a wide variety of color! We expect solids and possible abstracts (small white mark on the chest) with color possibilities of blacks, blues, silvers, brown, cafe, silver, beige, along with apricots and creams.

Our puppies will receive extensive socialization using our proven training program we’ve used for 30 years breeding our Labrador pups. We use the Early Neurological Socialization and Early Scent Introduction. They will be exposed to loud noises, distant gunshots, game birds, outside people, among other scenarios. about the standard poodle

Poodles are often associated with their fancy haircuts and sophisticated demeanor. However, long before Standard Poodles were perceived as “fancy froo froo” dogs they were die hard hunting companions, highly prized for their abilities retrieving in the water and on land more than 400 years ago.

What most people don’t know is that poodles were initially bred as hunting dogs. The origin of the breed can be traced back to Germany where they are known as the “Pudel,” which means “to splash about.” The word itself describes how the dog would jump into water to retrieve fallen game birds during a hunt. French nobles later picked up on this trend and began breeding larger poodles to create Standard Poodles.

Standard Poodles have many characteristics that make them great hunters. They are considered the second most intelligent breed of dog, only behind Border Collies, which make them easy to train and quick to learn. Poodles are eager to please and are very sensible dogs that build great bonds with their families. They have strong scenting abilities and their athletic making them the perfect companion for the hunting blind. Additionally, their curly coat protects them from the cold while also allowing them to be more mobile in the field.

Poodles originated as hunting dogs because they are the most versatile and most intelligent breeds. Those qualities have brought the Standard Poodle to dominate competitive canine sports like Obedience, Scenting Trials, and Coursing Ability Tests. The Standard Poodle is the perfect fit as a family pet, service animal, sporting or scenting prospect, and of course…hunting companion! For those with allergies, Standard Poodles are hypoallergenic and they don’t shed! If you’re looking for an outstanding, unique, fluffy, friendly companion both in the home and the field, a Standard Poodle fits the bill.
